About Us

New Blood. Bold Beer.

The Mothers Contempt Brewerygood beer. bad attitude.

Our story

We are new. Established in 2026, brand new, gleaming fermenters and everything. But the ideas behind The Mothers Contempt have been fermenting a lot longer than the brewery has: a quiet frustration with safe, forgettable beer, and a love for making beer with a difference. Beer that walks in loud, says something worth hearing, and leaves you planning your next pint before you have finished the first. We brew in the middle of it all: London born, London based, and brewed with the noise and nerve of the city in every glass.

Bold is not a marketing word here. It is the whole plan. Big malt, unapologetic hops, flavours that push right to the edge and stop there, because we brew everything to be memorable, not merely drinkable. If a recipe does not make someone sit up and take notice, it goes back to the drawing board.

Our range starts with three main beers, each one brewed to matter, and each one only the beginning. More are coming at a later date, because a brewery this new has a lot left to say. Until then, three is plenty to be getting on with.

Being the new kid suits us fine. No legacy recipes to defend, no habits to unlearn, and nothing to fall back on but the beer itself. Every batch has to earn its place, and every glass has to leave people wanting more. That is the standard. That is the contempt.

“We don’t chase trends. We brew the beer we want to drink, and we let the beer do the arguing.”
House rule number one, set on day one

The name? It is what happens when good beer meets a complete lack of patience for the bland. We kept it, because it fits. Good beer takes conviction, and conviction has always looked a bit like contempt for the easy option.

We are at the very start of this story, and that is exactly how we like it: small batches, honest ingredients, a rebellious streak, and a warm welcome where the opinions are free of charge. Come drink the first chapter.

What we stand for

House Rules

  • No shortcuts

Long fermentation, proper conditioning, and nothing rushed out the door to hit a seasonal window. If a batch is not right, it does not leave the brewery.

  • Proper malt

British floor-malted barley from farmers we can name, milled fresh on brew day. Depth of flavour starts in the field, not in a flavouring drum.

  • Bad attitude

We say what we think, brew what we like, and pour it with a raised eyebrow at anything focus-grouped, pastel, or bland. Contempt, in this case, is a quality control process.
